Monitoring for action: symposium abstracts

The symposium Monitoring for action: understanding Western Australia’s changing marine and coastal environments was held in November 2009.

The aim of the symposium was not to look into the detail of one particular monitoring technique or method per se, but instead to come at the whole marine and coastal monitoring challenge to understand why we monitor in the first place, how best to go about it to give the study every possible chance of succeeding, and having a long enough temporal duration to track natural and anthropogenic process change. Data management and the issues around management uptake of monitoring outputs, both keystones in any successful monitoring program were addressed.

The booklet of symposium abstracts is attached.
