Ningaloo Atlas workshop

 11 March 2010

A workshop to create a web-based Ningaloo Atlas will be held at the University of Western Australia on 24 March.

The Atlas will be part of a general communication strategy to promote an increased awareness of the Ningaloo region, highlighting gains in knowledge stemming from the significant science efforts made there in the last few years. It will build on the e-Atlas project for the Great Barrier Reef (http://e-atlas.org.au/ ) and seeks to provide access to data and information on contemporary environmental issues at Ningaloo.

The Ningaloo Atlas is a partnership and we would welcome your involvement in shaping it. It will contain maps, data and metadata, text pages contributed through a 'moderated Wiki', images and video. Part of our task in building the Atlas will be to facilitate links to your key datasets, at a level you are comfortable with, and provide easy to use visualisation and content management tools. These will allow users with little technical knowledge to quickly undertake interactive mapping for the Ningaloo region and create attractive web sites, metadata etc.

It is envisaged that the Ningaloo Atlas will be a living resource for researchers, managers and the public. You are invited to a half-day meeting to discuss how the project will unfold, how it could involve you and what features you would like to see built in.

The atlas project is being coordinated by the WA Department of Environment and Conservation and the Australian Institute of Marine Science.

The workshop will start at 12.30pm and be held in the CLIMA seminar room at UWA. Please see the attached map for details.
