Ecosystems research symposium

Latest research along Western Australia’s south-west and Perth coastlines was discussed at a Western Australian Marine Science (WAMSI) symposium today.

WAMSI Board Chairman, Dr Peter Rogers, said the integration of eight research projects was one of the best examples of concentrating research at a regional level.

First humpback whales arrive in Pender Bay, Kimberley

The Western Australian Marine Science Institution kicked off the 2010 independent humpback whale survey on Thursday 10 June 2010.

In association with the Two Moons Whale and Marine Research Base, on the shores of Pender Bay, Kimberley coast, the first humpback whale was sighted at 08.24 (WST) from the cliff top location on Friday 11 June 2010.

Outstanding graduate student research at Ningaloo

Climate change, whale sharks and the social impacts of climate change at Ningaloo were discussed at the Ningaloo Student Research Day this week.

Thirteen postgraduate students spoke about their research into marine species, the distribution of particles, coastal planning, the impact of camping at pastoral stations and the health of coral reefs.
