From mid 2006 the Western Australian Marine Science Institution (WAMSI) had a focus to improve the coordination of marine science activities and the understanding of the marine and estuarine ecosystems of Western Australia (WA). It has enhanced our predictive capacity and our ability to model both natural and human effects to further inform marine management decisions. Involving over 250 scientists from 16 organisations, the WAMSI 1 research program was a massive collaborative effort to deliver public-good research outcomes.
